The Genesee Valley Brass is a brass quintet that plays arrangements of all types of music. Tin Pan Alley, Big Band, Broadway Shows, sacred, folk, gospel, classical, ragtime, jazz, pop, are some of the musical styles the group performs. The group started several years ago as the result of a request of a friend whose daughter wanted brass music for her wedding. The group later expanded to a quintet. Four members of the group are also members of the 78 RPM Big Band. Bob Rex from Dansville plays 1st trumpet, Rich Baehr from Nunda plays 2nd trumpet, Rachel Hitt from Dansville plays french horn, Ken Applin from Dansville plays trombone, and Tom McKinney from North Cohocton plays tuba. Some of the places where the group has performed are: Wayland Potato Festival, Dansville Historical Society, Dansville Samaritan Dinner, Nunda Council of Churches Lenten Services, the first Christmas in Nunda, Wayland Advent season music celebration, Sparta Center Methodist Church Strawberry Festival, Garwoods Methodist Church first Valentine Party, Dansville Area churches Easter Sunrise service, and at the Salamanca United Methodist Church.
